Adult ABI Football Group

We at Manchester Occupational Therapy Services are excited to announce that this year the new Adult Acquired Brain Injury Occupational Therapy Football Group, ABI-lity OT FC, has been launched.

The sessions take place at the Soccerdome in Trafford, Manchester and are run by an Occupational Therapist, a qualified FA coach and a Sports Rehab Therapist. The sessions are held in six week blocks with the group being run weekly and are an hour long on Wednesday’s at 11am. The cost of which is £180 for the six week course. Capacity for the group is set at 12 people and support workers are invited along for no additional cost.

Participants must be ambulant as this group is unfortunately not be suitable for wheelchair users. Attendees must also be over the age of 16 years old.

The Occupational Therapist is fully qualified and experienced in working with clients with Acquired Brain Injuries. The group was founded out of the limited services which are available to fill the client’s time with meaningful and purposeful activities, especially the clients who struggle with the demands of full time employment. Group sports help to improve confidence, self esteem, mood, social skills and can be incorporated as part of a holistic rehabilitation or maintenance package. The therapist will facilitate the group and assess for cognitive, physical and social difficulties and grade the activities to suit the client’s needs, for example simplifying instructions or tasks. The group can also incorporate any wider goals set by the client for example improving social skills, coping with stress, anger management, improve concentration etc.

For the purpose of the medico-legal procedure more extensive reports can be produced, however this would be at an additional cost, please contact me for details.
